What’s the Difference?

If you live in a small town or on the outskirts of Eugene your neighborhood Dari Mart may be a Dari Market. #14 Monroe, #24 Brownsville, #29 Coburg, and #50 Pleasant Hill are where you can find your nearest Dari Market. So what makes a Dari Market different from a Dari Mart? Our Market locations are bigger in size and have a wider range of products in our hot food case and chicken selection, deli, grocery, and produce sections, and we often have something extra that sets it apart.

It might be a post office like Coburg, a deli meat slicer like Pleasant Hill, or a Lochmead ice cream dipping case like Monroe and Brownsville. In these areas there may not be a convenient option for a grocery store close by which is why we offer more grocery and produce options in our Market locations.

A fun fact about our Markets is that within a Dari Mart Store, you will always find a blue accent wall, but in a Dari Market there are only red accent walls. This is to help differentiate between the two and of course incorporate both of our signature colors; red and blue.

Brownsville Location

Our first Market opened in 2014 with the Pleasant Hill location. The idea began when 3rd generation owner and Vice President Kathy Gibson realized Dari Mart had a few locations in smaller population towns that didn’t have a close option for everyday kitchen and food items. How inconvenient would it be to have to drive 20 to 25 minutes to the nearest grocery store to get a stick of butter to finish your cookie recipe?

So to help solve this problem and offer a closer and more convenient option we began building and converting select Dari Mart Store locations to Markets and offering emergency everyday essentials. At that same time, Kathy Gibson started a new initiative; the Fresh to Go Kitchen and Menu. The goal was to provide customers with healthier snack and lunch options including salads, sandwiches, wraps, and veggie snacks. Both Fresh to Go and Dari Markets have expanded since their launch over 10 years ago and are still available to provide local communities with a wider range of fresh and local lunch and grocery options.
